Mary was baptised on the 15th May 1832 (Hunmanby Church Register), the fourth child of Thomas and Sarah Seller.

The 1841 census shows Mary aged 9 living at home with her parents

The 1851 census shows Mary aged 19 living at home with her parents & brother George and married to John Smith, born c.1826 at Hunmanby.
The 1861 census shows Mary aged 28 living at home with her parents and married to William Smith, with Thomas aged 8, Sarah Anne aged 6, & George William aged 10 days.
Either Mary married John Smith, who subsequently died before 1861, whereupon she then married William Smith, who could possibly have been John’s brother, (this was a fairly common occurrence of the times). OR John & William were the same person &
the 1851 census entry got his name wrong- this is also not unusual, & in fact more likely as Church records show the marriage of William Smith and Mary Jane Sellers, January 1851 (Vol 23 pg 45 Bridlington).
The 1871 census shows Mary living at home with her parents and married to William Smith with Thomas, Sarah Anne, George William plus John Francis aged 8, Robert aged 7, Mary aged 6, Fredrick aged 5, Harry aged 3 & Beatrice aged 2.
The 1881 census shows Mary’s parents, Thomas and Sarah, along with all of the children except George William and without Mary or William plus a great grandson Charles Hy Smith aged 3 (shown on the 1891 census as nephew to John Francis).
Mary had nine children all born at Hunmanby:-
Thomas Smith
born c1853.
Sarah Ann Smith
born c1855.
George William Smith
born c1861.
John Francis Smith
born c1863.
Robert Smith
born c1864.
Mary E. Smith
born c1865.
born c1866, died 9th August 1949 at Hull.
Harry Smith
born c1868.
Beatrice Smith
born c1869.

This family all lived with Thomas and Sarah at the Northgate Farm and in fact, when Thomas and Sarah died, John Francis Smith became head of the household (1891 census) living there with his sister Sarah Ann, brother Harry and nephew Charles (born c1878 at Hunmanby), who was probably the son of Sarah Ann.S

This was certainly the end of the Sellers name at Northgate, and in 1901, George Smith was a Farmer and Cattle Dealer there, with his wife Emily born at Hunmanby c.1866 and daughter Annie M. born at Hunmanby c.1893.
