Mark Cowton, the youngest son of Francis Cowton and Jane Sutton, was born on the16th of February 1859 at Wold Cottage, Muston Wold, Muston, just on the outskirts of Hunmanby. He was baptised on the 6th April 1859 at Muston .
In 1861 Mark (2 yrs old) was living with his father Francis and Mother Jane at Wold Cottage. His father was a farm labourer. Mark was the youngest of nine children.
In 1871 the family had moved to the West Side of Burlington Street, Hunmanby, and Mark was still living there in 1881 by which time he was a general labourer.

He was married at Holy Trinity, Meanwood, Leeds, on the 4th of March 1950, to Joyce (Fozard) (daughter of Joseph & Nellie (Blakeney). Kenneth & Joyce were divorced.  They had four children, one of whom, Kevin Morrison, continues to research the family history and provided the main part of the information here.
Hilda’s second marriage was to Thomas Mortimer on the 3rd November 1951 at Leeds. Hilda’s occupation was given as Assistant Hospital Nurse and Thomas’ as Photographer. Hilda died at Leeds when she was 68 on 17th May 1958.
Elizabeth  died on 21st  July 1900 at home, (31 Hartwell Rd, Burley, Leeds), from 'Cancer of the Gall Bladder, Jaundice, Exhaustion'. The 1901 census shows Mark, a widower, living at 31 Hartwell Road, Headingley, Leeds with son Harry, aged 16 yrs. (Hilda Jane, aged 9, is shown to be visiting with a family called ‘Hoggarth’ at ‘The Lodge’ in Hunmanby – probably because her mother (Elizabeth) had recently died).
On the 22nd October 1904 at Leeds Register Office, Mark, a widower, was married a second time to Clara Hutchinson, the daughter of Robert Hutchinson.
Mark and Clara had one child:-
Annie
born 18th March 1905 at  Leeds.
Mark died at Leeds on the 2nd November 1941 when he was 82 years of age.

(The continuing family is being researched by Mark’s great grandson, Kevin Morrison)
