IRENE was born at Bubwith, Yorkshire on the 8th December 1921,
the first child of Clarence and Alice Cawood
.
(She was the first child to be born in the new council houses)

On the 15th October 1940 Irene married Frederick Lockley who was stationed at RAF Church Fenton in Yorkshire.
They were married in the chapel at the Scarthingwell Estate near Barkston Ash in Yorkshire.

They had two daughters:-
JENNIFER MARY LOCKLEY
born 1942 in South Milford in the West Riding of Yorkshire.
ANGELA LOCKLEY
born 1953 in Haslemere, Surrey.

On his return from India after the war, Frederick and Irene rented a converted railway carriage (said to have once been the baggage car from one of the royal trains) from a farmer in Church Fenton.
It was situated in a field near the railway station, and opposite Blakely's who made gasometers
(where Frederick worked with Clarence Cawood).

They had to collect all their water from a tap two fields away and boil it up for washing, bathing etc.
