All ten children were named in Thomas’s will of 1718. Mary, John, Elizabeth, Ursula, Richard, William & Ann were left one shilling each, having been already provided for.  Margaret, Grace, Jane and Thomas's wife Elizabeth were left property.  The family farm was left to John who was named as eldest son  (he signed his name as Sunley), thus he became a 'Yeoman of West Ness'
(i.e he inherited the family farm)
on Thomas's death.
Thomas died on the 26th January 1719 and was buried at Stonegrave Minster.
Elizabeth senior died on the 16th May 1738 and was also buried at Stonegrave Minster.

JOHN SONLEY (b 1684) married Margarot WALTON on the14th November 1727 at York. They had a son:- ...

Thomas SUNLEY
born 17 Sep 1728 at West Ness

John SONLEY died 28 Sep 1747 at West Ness and his name was recorded as Sunley. In his own will of 1747 (Yeoman of West Ness) he signed his name Sonley. Only his wife and son Thomas were mentioned in the will, which probably means that he only had the one child.

Much of the foregoing material was kindly sent to me by Donna Alden-Bugden from Canada and has been used along with previous material researched by Roy Pledger .(Donna is the 11 x great grandaughter of Thomas Sonelay and Janet Lion)

THOMAS SUNLEY
(b 1728) Although no marriage or death details have yet been found for Thomas, it is most likely that he was the father of : -
born in 1757.

(It may well be that Thomas sold up and moved away from the area, which would also account for not being able to find a birth for John)
